The LDC United Lightning U13 girls team finished their EPYSA President’s Cup – State Championship run on Mother’s Day with a State Cup Championship for all their mother’s.
The girls went through bracket play in March and April with a 6-1 win over West-Mont United and a 1-1 Tie over CRUSA Lightning. With a win and a tie it was enough to push the girls through to the semi finals as the group winner.
On Saturday, May 8th, the team traveled to West Chester SC for their semi final match versus Parkland Premier out of Allentown. The girls played hard and with goals by Alex Ebersole and Maci Bower, the 2-1 victory was enough to push them into the finals the following day. With a long drive home and some needed sleep before returning in the morning, they bounced back and were ready for a familiar opponent. The final match would be with the CRUSA Lightning who made it through to the semi finals as the wild card winner. After 65 minutes of scoreless soccer, the LDC girls were awarded a penalty kick after a CRUSA player tripped an attacking Elizabeth Stern-Green in the penalty box. The PK came with only about 5 minutes remaining. Team captain Shayna Macfarlane calmly stepped up and hit the game winner. After the goal, the LDC girls battled to keep it and applied the pressure even more. After the final whistle the girls where all smiles knowing they are now headed to the Region 1 President’s Cup Championships in Saratoga Spring, NY over Memorial Day weekend.
At Regional’s, the girls will face teams from all around region 1 in group play. Region 1 consist of all the sate winners from Maine to West Virginia. Now it’s time to bring LDC United/Lower Dauphin Soccer Club, Central Pennsylvania Youth Soccer League, and Eastern Pennsylvania State Youth Soccer Association a Regional Championship!
GOOD LUCK to all the girls!!!
